Spring into Car Care: Get Your Vehicle Ready for the Road Ahead
In Southwest Florida, we enjoy warm weather year-round, but that doesn’t mean our vehicles don’t need a little seasonal attention. With longer days, weekend getaways, and summer road trips on the horizon, now is the perfect time to make sure your car is ready for the road.
In honor of National Car Care Month this April, the team at Atlas Insurance has put together a quick guide to help you prepare your vehicle for the warmer months ahead.
1. Wash Your Car (Especially the Undercarriage)
Even in Florida, dirt, sand, and salt from coastal air can accumulate on your vehicle, especially underneath. A good wash, including the undercarriage, helps prevent corrosion and protects your paint and components from long-term damage.
2. Repair Rust or Corrosion
If your car is over 8 years old or frequently exposed to moisture or salty conditions, it’s a good idea to inspect it for rust, particularly around the underbody and wheel wells. Catching and repairing these early can prevent larger issues down the road.
3. Check Your Tire Pressure
As temperatures rise, the air in your tires expands. Overinflated tires can lead to uneven wear or even blowouts. Check your tire pressure and ensure it matches the recommended PSI listed in your owner’s manual or inside the driver’s side doorjamb.
4. Inspect Your Windshield Wipers
With spring showers in full swing, visibility is key. If your wipers are squeaking, skipping, or leaving streaks, it’s time for a replacement. A clear windshield is especially important during sudden Florida downpours.
5. Test Your Battery
Florida’s heat can take a toll on your battery. If it’s a few years old or if you’ve noticed your car takes longer to start, get it tested. A quick battery check now can prevent getting stranded later, especially during those summer road trips.
